Adult and Geriatric Psychiatric Services

The Gateway Unit at Bullock County Hospital provides acute psychiatric services for adults age 19 to 54 and geriatric psychiatric services that focuses on the older population. The unit is designed to treat psychiatric patients with and without concurrent medical issues.

Services include:

  • Psychiatric Assessment
  • Nursing Assessment
  • Medication Management
  • Group and Individual Counseling as well as Discharge Planning.

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Mood Disorders
  • Changes in Mental Status
  • A Need for Medication Adjustments in an inpatient setting
  • Symptoms of Psychosis
  • Thoughts of Harm to Self or Others
  • Threatening or Bizarre Behavior
  • Other Serious Mental Illnesses

Admission:

Patients may be admitted on a voluntary basis or by court order. All admissions must be approved by Bullock County Hospital's Psychiatrist(s) and must meet the criteria for inpatient treatment. The average length of stay is seven days but stays may be longer if necessary for stabilization.
